Job Description

The fellowship involves work in the Mount Sinai Hospital and New Women’s College Hospital Male Infertility/Andrology clinical program. This is a very active program with over 1000 new referrals per year and over 300 surgical procedures annually. Fellows participate in the male infertility, sexual dysfunction and andropause clinics at the Mount Sinai Hospital and New Women’s College Hospital and come to the operating rooms at the Mount Sinai Hospital and New Women’s College Hospital to assist at surgery.

Fellows are also expected to actively participate in Andrology rounds and resident education. It is also expected that fellows will have one or more clinical or basic science research projects. Fellows will occasionally be asked to take call. This is at the discretion of the fellowship supervisor.

This fellowship is supervised by Dr. Keith Jarvi, Director of the Murray Koffler Urologic Wellness Centre and Head of Urology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr Kirk Lo, Urologist at Murray Koffler Urologic Wellness Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital and Dr Ethan Grober, Urologist, Murray Koffler Urologic Wellness Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital and New Women’s College Hospital.

Objectives

At the end of their training the fellows will be completely versed in the investigation of male infertility/andrology, including:

  1. Genetic testing and counseling
  2. Imaging use and interpretation
  3. Sperm testing and interpretation
  4. Hormonal evaluation
  5. Infection screening
  6. Environmental, nutritional, and medical causes of male infertility

They will also be able to treat the causes of male infertility, sexual dysfunction and hypogonadism, understand the risks of the treatments and be aware of alternative treatments. These treatments include:

  1. Surgical treatment of infertility and sexual dysfunction (microsurgical reconstruction and correction of reproductive tract alterations, surgical retrieval of sperm, resection of prostatic duct cysts), surgical correction for undescended testes, penile surgery for erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s Disease, neurolysis procedures
  2. Management of hormonal alterations
  3. Treatment of infections
  4. Nutritional support

The fellows are expected at the end of their fellowship training to be able to participate in/direct/develop an andrology Program in their own hospitals.
