Dr. Lo received his B.Sc. in Physiology and Physics from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill, and completed his urology residency in 2002. He then sub-specialized in Male Reproductive Surgery and Medicine under the mentorship of Drs. Larry Lipshultz and Dolores Lamb at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. He was awarded the American Foundation for Urological Disease (AFUD) and American Urologic Association (AUA) Scholarship for his research work on testicular stem cell biology, and gamete preservation for cancer patients.
Dr. Lo was appointed to the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada as a staff Urologist, and Surgeon Investigator in 2004. He is currently Associate Professors at University of Toronto. As a Men’s Health specialist, Dr. Lo’s practice focus on improving prostate, reproductive and sexual health for men, and performs microsurgical procedures such as vasectomy reversal, micro-dissection for testicular sperm extraction.
In addition to patient care, he is also involved in basic science research. His work focuses on the preservation of fertility in cancer patients from both clinical and basic science aspects. He has received funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH R01) for his human testicular model to study chemotherapy effect on human reproduction. His laboratory has also received research grants to perform semen proteomic study for the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility and prostate cancer.
Dr. Lo was the recipient of the A.W. Bruce Faculty Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2009 and 2013. He also served on the Executive Council of the American Society of Andrology. He was also the Chair of the Post-graduate education program for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He has been elected Secretary of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR-sub society of American Urological Association), and will be the President of SSMR in 2016.
