“A man, though wise, should never be ashamed of learning more, and must unbend his mind.”
– Sophocles
Welcome to the Division of Urology at the University of Toronto. Urology focuses on the medical and surgical management of disorders affecting the male and female urinary tract, as well as the male reproductive system.
Our specialty has a long history of innovation and technological leadership, including the introduction of shock-wave lithotripsy and robotic surgery into clinical practice. Urologists have contributed significantly to major scientific advances, including discoveries bestowing two Nobel laureates.
The Urology Division at the University of Toronto traces its origins to 1922, when the first Urology Service was established at Toronto General Hospital. Since then, our impact on research, patient care, and education has been recognized around the world. Our faculty have been at the forefront of nearly every urologic subspecialty, helping shape modern urologic practice.
Today, we are based across six major University teaching hospitals and include 37 clinical faculty and one PhD scientist. Over the past couple of years, the division has secured over $30 million in research funding. We also maintain strong educational and clinical partnerships with numerous community hospitals. Our training programs currently include 27 residents and 24 fellows, and we are proud to have educated many of the leading voices in urology in Canada and internationally.
We have recently completed a strategic planning process that outlines our vision for the coming years. This website reflects our commitment to strengthening communication within our division, with collaborators, and with the broader public.
Welcome to our website!
